Sources for LMI
LMI sources are known as data sources. Data sources for labour market information are the organized and systematic efforts that take the form of censuses, surveys or the use of administrative records to produce LMI. This information is produced by collecting, processing and extracting information from elementary observation units and compiling summary measures or indicators. In some cases, statistically and / internationally defined concepts and methodologies are used.
Data sources are the prime focus for any policy or evaluation that aim to ensure the quality and availability of LMI. Thus, data sources would be discussed in terms of primary data sources and secondary data sources.
Primary LMI sources are the original sources of information from censuses, surveys or administrative records that were produced by collecting information directly from research or observation units such as individual persons, households, establishments or enterprises.
Secondary LMI sources are institutions / organizations producing statistics, indicators, projections and analysis making use of primary information supplied by primary LMI.
